We think it’s important to share as much information with our clients and readers as possible and so whenever our Dr Shahzadi Harper, our Menopause Doctor writes an article – we want you to know about it.
Recently Dr Harper has put together a fascinating article for the Harley Street Emporium regarding vaginal dryness and potential treatments. We often come across old wives tales and stories about people finding ‘new’, ‘innovative’ or ‘alternative’ methods with which to deal with their conditions.
Vaginal dryness is an uncomfortable menopause symptom in both literal terms and in terms of wanting to talk about the issue. It can be hard to pin point as it differs from woman to woman with many reporting itching or a burning sensation which can be confused with thrush.
It can also make sex a painful experience which can have a huge impact on relationships and self-confidence.
If you are suffering and think you are the only one who is having this problem, think again; one study showed that 62-67% of women said they suffered vaginal dryness . It’s the same old story… no one wants to talks about it.
Given that it’s not the usual dinner table conversation, it’s not surprising that women turn to the internet and social media for help.
Some sites tell women vaginal lubricants are full of nasty chemicals and instead, they should turn to the kitchen cupboard for some ‘natural’ solutions: after all, if it’s good enough to eat, it must be good enough to put in your most intimate areas.
The short answer to this question is “Absolutely not!” In the article on Harley Street Emporium, our very own Dr Shahzadi Harper explains, “This is a sensitive area with a delicately balanced pH. Anything that interferes with that can upset the intimate flora – the balance between the good and bad bacteria in our vaginas – and could cause infections.”
